Extracurricular Activities
At Claremont Primary School, we believe in nurturing the diverse talents and interests of our students through a wide range of extracurricular activities. These programs complement our academic curriculum and provide students with opportunities for personal growth and development.
Visual Arts Room
In the Visual Arts Room, children explore their artistic talents through activities such as painting, sculpting with clay, and designing various works of art. This space fosters creativity and allows students to express themselves artistically.
Library
Our Library is a hub of learning and exploration. Students visit the library for one period per week to develop basic library skills, encourage reading, and broaden their general knowledge. Regular Readathons and Help-To-Read volunteer sessions further support our learners’ reading skills.
SHINE Centre
The SHINE Centre, established at Claremont Primary School in 2009, is a literacy program aimed at Grade 2 students. With the support of 40 dedicated volunteers, this program helps over 40 children per week improve their reading skills. The SHINE Centre is a testament to our commitment to literacy and community support.
After Care
Our after-care facility consists of two buildings: the main after-care and the homework room. Children who are picked up later in the afternoon are cared for and fed, while Mrs. M Baatjies assists them with their homework in the homework room. This service ensures a safe and supportive environment for students after school hours.
Khanya Lab
Our state-of-the-art Khanya Lab, equipped with new computers by the Department, is used by all learners and educators to reinforce curriculum subjects. Classes visit the lab to engage with math, reading, and other educational programs, as well as use the Internet for research.
Dance Classes
Dance lessons are an integral part of our Creative Arts curriculum. Students receive individual dance instruction in various forms, contributing to their physical and artistic development.
At Claremont Primary School, our extracurricular activities provide a well-rounded educational experience, empowering students to explore their passions and develop essential life skills. Join us in fostering a vibrant and dynamic school community!
Sporting Excellence: Building Character and Skills
At Claremont Primary School, we believe that sports play a crucial role in the holistic development of our students. Our extensive range of sporting facilities and diverse sports programs serve as a valuable extension of the classroom, where many essential life lessons are learned. Both boys and girls from Foundation Phase upwards are encouraged to participate in sport each week.
Our coaching methods are carefully considered to ensure that while the expertise and enthusiasm of our coaches are important, the principles of good educational practice are always evident on our sports fields. We aim to foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship in a supportive and engaging environment.
Matches are an integral part of learning about sport at Claremont Primary School. They are arranged through leagues and fixtures, taking into account the age and emotional maturity of our students. Additionally, house matches are organized in every discipline to promote friendly competition and camaraderie among students. While we strive for excellence in sports, we understand that true performance is measured not only by the scoreboard but also by the personal growth and development of each student. Our sports programs are designed to instill a lifelong love of physical activity and to nurture the skills and values that will benefit our students both on and off the field.
